How about THIS for an idea, guys? Why don’t we, as a planet — and this means starting with YOU, the person reading this brilliant idea — STOP BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS???!!! What a concept! All your little petition drives, etc., are a great warm and fuzzy way to feel good about yourselves and pat yourself on your back, but as long as you are driving a gasoline-powered car, YOU are as much a part of the problem as the president of Chevron, and until each and every one of us start taking some PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY about our part in the mess this planet is in, Chevron and the rest of the Planet Eaters are taking your money and laughing all the way to the bank. That’s my comment; hope it was helpful.

Somehow have the petition dripping with oil.
Comment by Greg Turetzky02/03/10 at 7:22 am
Because this is a corporation, no individual that works for that corporation (from the CEO down) cares enough to pay attention to those downtroddened by their filth left in the water, air, soil and the harm to the people of Eduador. To fight wealth you must ensure the governmen of Eduador will stand with their people and ensure they are not getting paid off. The government must make laws to protect their own people, they cannot do it on their own or they will become victims, like the Nigerian’s being murdered by Exxon and the Nigerian government helping them–just for profit. You must get into the board room and to the shareholders to keep showing them the disgust of their company and have them make regulations within their own company. Thank you for continuing to fight and help the people that are suffering from their filth.

Dear People, Please google Techrex Blog and scan those energy-related ideas on the 11thHourAction.com website, since they might make a valid alternative to oil and so lessen what Chevron is doing.
Comment by Robert Schreib Jr.02/03/10 at 7:25 am
Any smart forward looking investor or business person knows the value of diversification. Chevron needs to branch out of the oil energy game into renewables. It’s natural for a business to want to milk their cash cow until the cows come home. However, in order to assure they have a future they need to invest heavily into renewables because that’s where the future profits and margins lay. It’s the VISION thing that Watson needs to embrace. Instead of looking in the rear view mirror he should be looking at how to break out of the pack and move forward. It’s the role of leaders to lead….he can make a huge difference if he formulates and announces transition plans to move Chevron from oil to renewables. He needs to think about what his legacy is…he can reinvent Chevron now or see it remain an obstacle to progress.
Comment by Ginny Nichols02/03/10 at 7:27 am
Chevron is concerned with it’s public image. They will budge if that image is threatened. Indigenous people move the public and the Media. Get them together at Chevron’s door.

Place each signature on a Ecuadorian sucre note, the currency replaced by the US dollar in 2000, and give the money to Watson. The sucres that were in circulation appear very colorful, so maybe the sucres can be designed with a photo of distressed rain forest on one side, and thriving rain forest on the other.

Greetings,
Comment by Christine RedfernHow about mimicking their ‘Reaching Out to Save Lives Campaign: Twelve Reasons to Celebrate’ that is on the main page of http://www.chevron.com? Tie the 12 Reasons to both Ecuador as well as Richmond, California. Hate to say it but most Americans think they can isolate themselves from problems (healthcare, environment, monetary) and just take care of themselves. Might get more bang if we show that Chevron’s practices are poisoning Americans too. CR

Chevron is obviously aware of the mess that is left behind, yet is unwilling to do anything about it. The best way to get a message across to people of this mindset is to affect their bottom line.
I have had some success in this areea by circulating online petitions that outline the problem and calling for a boycott of the offenders products until satisfavtory ammends have been made.
The environmental community comprises many organizations with tremendous membership numbers, some of which are Chevron customers, and such a boycott could be very effective in inducing a change in attitude.
Comment by Grant Campbell02/03/10 at 7:45 am
Dear Mr. Watson:,
Below is the stock petition, but I want you to please consider what your company is doing as regards my children. Not only would I like my kids to know and love the beauty of rainforests in South America, specifically in Ecuador, I also know that our world, as it says in Romans 8:22, is “groaning, awaiting redemption”. Please be responsible with this garden that God has given us. Please help be a part of its redemption, rather than helping in its corruption. My children need it. Your children and grandchildren need it. Thanks.
***********************************************
As the new CEO of Chevron, climate change and the environmental and human rights impacts of Chevron’s operations are the two issues that will define your tenure at the helm of one of the world’s largest oil companies. Chevron has fallen behind other businesses and many political leaders already taking a leadership position on climate change. Furthermore, your company is drawing increasing criticism for failing to rectify its massive human rights and environmental disaster in Ecuador. Taking the following steps will demonstrate a true commitment to environmental responsibility and respect for human rights which will only strengthen your company’s future.
We the undersigned call on Chevron CEO John Watson to:
Clean up Chevron’s toxic legacy in Ecuador, compensate affected communities for health and environmental impacts, and provide affected people real access to health care and potable water.
Develop a global environment and human rights policy that will prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Adopt aggressive strategies to provide clean energy to a carbon-constrained world.

Comment by Wendell CovaltWe will picket a Chevron service station and call the media. We can also get signatures of people visiting the area.

Ask participants to send in cut up Chevron credit cards and make a hug collage that highlights your message to them.
Comment by john stelling02/03/10 at 7:50 am
Make copies of the petitions and have people deliver them all at the same time to their local Chevron dealer — gas stations, etc. at the same that you are delivering to the CEO. Have pickets outside the gas station with a couple of key slogans that you agree on, call a press conference, and make sure everyone knows what you are doing. Even just picketing on that day while you deliver the petition to the CEO would be good. You could do it early in the day for press deadlines. Or you could do it at rush hour to get maximum exposure.
Comment by Joan Kramer02/03/10 at 7:51 am
I remember a lady who told me the thing to do was to leave a dead fish at someone’s doorstep as a protest; perhaps you could show up with a lot of dead fish???????? It sends a pretty strong message.

CLEAN THE AREA YOU POLLUTED” . THEY CAN SING STING’S OLD SONG : A THOUSAND YEARS ( about how everybody is subject to return in the next life as the one he now discriminates), Does this guy has kids?

As Frederick Douglass said:
“Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”
For this reason, I think it is a waste of time to try to get Chevron to change voluntarily. The best thing we can do to hold corporations responsible is to work on UNDOING the harm that the supreme court has recently inflicted upon our democracy.
There are a number of good bills in the works to limit the damage caused by the Roberts Court’s indefensible ruling. But there is only one bipartisan proposal on the table right now with substantial support in Congress that would change the rules of the game in Washington and put voters – not corporations – in charge of elections: the Fair Elections Now Act (H.R. 1826).
But ALL efforts are worth trying, and I hope that I’m wrong and that you DO get Chevron to change! Good luck!
Comment by Joanne Cockerill02/03/10 at 8:05 am
Forgive, but trying to change a corporation is a fool’s game. Koyaanisqatsi! Koyaanisqatsi! Koyaanisqatsi! The only significant change a corporation can understand is defeat by the competition. The competition in this case is clean, sustainable energy. You’re wasting your time and money trying to change a corporation by other than competition. Look at what the Supreme Court just did with the unlimited corporation election campaign contribution fiasco! The first amendment, if it really applies to corporations must also apply to robots, androids, genetically engineered mistakes etc. Even the brilliant judges don’t seem to be thinking very clearly these days! Don’t waste your time … push for clean, sustainable energy going now!!!

Deliver the petition via “vine line” as if swinging through the rainforest canopy, starting from a nearby building or other high point, swing over and knock on his office window (highrise, presumably). AND/OR…
Get images of a combination of trees, Ecuadorians and wildlife – 30,000??? – and make one of those large photos out of small photos – designed to look like John Watson!!!

This may sound ridiculous, but what about this idea? Instead of boycotting Chevron into action, how about pledging to buy their gasoline for one full year (and ONLY their gasoline) IF they clean up their mess in Equador within one year? Similar to the same environmental activism displayed by CarrotMob (www.carrotmob.org). Kill them with kindness…sort of. It worked for CarrotMob and it might just work for Chevron. Potential profit always gives big business incentive. Shareholders would love the idea. All Chevron has now is our hatred and threats, which mean absolutely nothing to them. But, if you promise to buy only THEIR gasoline for one entire year, think of the profit they will make. You have to ask yourself, do we want to drag this thing out for years and years while the rainforest and the people of Equador suffer immensely or do we get it cleaned up now? What difference does it make how it gets done? You have to buy gas for your car anyway, right? Why not Chevron? It’s only for a year. Chevron just might think more ‘green’ next time they want to pollute!

Appeal to their wallets not their hearts, because the companies actions and history clearly shows they have none. If chevron was to put money into actually cleaning up their mess they would need to see a clear profitable gain from it. The answer is creating an image reform towards publicity and changing by re-branding the company as a socially, ethically, and ecologically responsible company that actually to takes care of the environment and cleaning up their own mess. In this way there are hundreds of different ways to market their re-branding. Doing a documentary on the clean up process and glorifying their understanding for positive change. As of right now their marketing campaigns are half assed attempts to sway public opinion. If they re-brand themselves and market their company as being better than the competition by exuberantly saying how much they have changed towards a better direction for the future. It will stir up much more customer loyalty and increase sales.
Comment by Christopher Delia02/03/10 at 8:43 am
You should deliver the petition in hospital gowns and something that makes the point about the sickness Chevron’s crime is causing – maybe signs with the number of people who have gotten cancer. The fact that this is a human rights violation should be stressed, because the environment means nothing to these companies – other than its monetary value.
Comment by Bryan Sudbury02/03/10 at 8:43 am

Comment by John Denton02/03/10 at 8:50 am
I’d like to picket every single Chevron gas station, telling people to avoid Chevron because it worked with GM to kill the Nickel-Metal-Hydride (“NiMH”) battery-powered EV. To this date, EVs are too expensive because car companies can’t use NiMH, they are forced to use Lithium (which costs more, lasts less, and doesn’t recycle, you need new Lithium all the time).
Comment by Doug Korthof02/03/10 at 8:53 am
Chevron runs many commercials about how concerned they are about the environment. If you can find out when those commercials air and run a counter-commercial right behind it, that might have an impact.

Are llamas used in Ecuador as in Bolivia for transport? If so, see if you can hire one to be led to Mr whosit’s office with the petition on its back and beautiful eyelashes fluttering. It is a shame that largebusinesses are so narrow and ugly in their thinking and actions. It’s possible the human race hasn’t that long to be around — but we should all try to do a better job than has been done in the past.
Comment by Kathlyn Lew02/03/10 at 9:11 am
If possible, have volunteers and staff stand at corners (near but off of their property) by the most profitable Chevron stations with flyers and signs on that day…listing how many signatures via email and in person we have. Alert news networks in every major metropolitan area about the event. See if you can find a sympathetic local public official. Maybe clean windshields or do a carwash near the stations for a donation to rainforest cleanup and chat it up…get the non-busy sympathizers to join in for part of their day…even 15 to 20 minutes, maybe in exchange for a free wash. I wonder if it could also be presented as a race issue…Chevron would only do this to brown, Spanish speaking people…White people would get the mess cleaned up. Direct people to a nearby more environmentally responsible (or less culpable) alternative for their gasoline purchase.
Comment by Nancy Gorton02/03/10 at 9:12 am
Go for the positive! Drive up in a tanker truck with a sign painted (or draped over it) that says: “Chevron cleans up in Ecuador!” You can let the CEO and several media stations know when you are coming. Make sure he’ll be there. Will he come out of the building? I think the media presence may help with that.
Comment by Mike Loessin02/03/10 at 9:15 am
Chevron needs to clean up the damaged environment in Ecuador so that the people who live there may live!!!
Comment by Louise A. Morse02/03/10 at 9:33 am
A picture at Rain Forest action page shows a giant flare burning off unused gasses. I do not know the details but on the Niger delta such flares poisoned surrounding areas. There are gas burning electric generators that can safely burn these gasses in a more controlled situation. The electricity can then be used to reduce demand for wood or charcoal and thus win the support of local people.
Comment by Howard Christofersen. MD02/03/10 at 9:36 am
We need to overwhelm and flood Chevron’s communications and media with faxes, calls and emails. Every signed petition should be accompanied by photos of the devastation Chevron has created.
Comment by Thomas Cali02/03/10 at 10:02 am
Every time you see an ad — on Public TV, a magazine, whatever, for Chevron, call or email the advertiser and tell them what Chevron is doing and why you don’t like it. As far as delivering petitions, I’d wrap each one in a snow ball and deliver them to their lobby. (That might work where I am but maybe not where they are.)
Comment by Katrina DeLanoy02/03/10 at 10:15 am
How about bringing the indigenous leader to the U.S. for the delivery of the petitions. Perhaps you could have him meet with some Senators and Reps in D.C. Also, the new Sierra Club president should be an obvious choice, along with the new RAN leader, and any other environmental leaders we could link up with, for presentation of the petitions.
Comment by Bob Dickerson02/03/10 at 10:32 am

Maybe you could create some photos or paintings of what some wonderful American National Parks would look like, if they had been subject to the same abuse.
I suppose the Ecuadorian government may not be supportive. If they are, perhaps their ambassador to the U.S. could be in the delegation to present the petitions.
Comment by Bob Dickerson02/03/10 at 10:35 am

Comment by Carolyn Wolin02/03/10 at 10:38 am
1. Get a band of indigenous Ecuadorean musicians–like the guys who play in the subways etc–to deliver the petition. Even if they don’t get in to the inner sanctum they can sing in the outer office and will get noticed. It’s a kind of indigenous singing telegram.
2. Set up a protest march outside the office as a diversionary tactic. Then when people are dealing with the marchers, someone quietly gets inside to deliver the petition.
3. Send the guy a cake with the petition inside. Or very close to.
Comment by C P Saul02/03/10 at 11:05 am
Slide into the delivery meeting place in a pool of oil sludge and make sure all the media is there with cameras. Have the presenters wear garments embellished with large scale pictures of the destruction to persons and places from the affected site.
Comment by Lisha Perini02/03/10 at 11:07 am
i’ve always wanted to build a “pipeline” & unfurl across their pretty lawn like they do thru people’s farmlands and villages. fill the pipeline with copies of the 30,000+ petitions and blow them thru the pipeline so they spill out & “contaminate” their “land”
there’s also always the opportunity to present their leadership at their environmental award ceremony and/or any function where Chevron is honored as the presenting sponsor. there’s lots of these opportunities!
Comment by S. Alston02/03/10 at 11:21 am
I think you should combine a lot of these ideas below…I especially like the idea of making copies of the petition to deliver to Chevron’s worldwide/nationwide at the same time, organized with leaders in charge in each city that would like to participate, who could send out the press releases with info on the petition/protest date & times to their local media.
As for the delivery of the petition to headquarters and Mr.Watson, I would deliver each signature separately, having 30,000 volunteers to deliver each one individually one after another…and of course get everything on video for future use to create awareness…Something like the outrageous tobacco commercials being produced outside of major tobacco company buildings. Once each person has delivered the message, have them wait outside the building so as not to cause a large group “trespassing”…until all the signatures have been delivered. I suppose everyone could wear a black shirt or some otherwise noticeably coordinated clothing as well.
I would love to be delivery #30,000, drenched in an oily substance, or at least with oil on the bottom of my shoes to leave the last trace of delivery in oily footprints. :)
Looking forward to whatever you all decide, I’m sure it will be something to remember.
Comment by Jessica B. - Evident Empire Media02/03/10 at 11:24 am
Instead of a list of names, why not submit each name within a little drawing of tree. Simple tree outlines could be as small as possible, while still allowing room for a name inside. 30,000 trees would have more of an impact than just 30,000 names, and would make a visual statement about how many people are fighting for their homeland, how many of us there are who won’t be buying Chevron gas, and most of all, just how many 30,000 trees are, let alone how many they have destroyed in Ecuador
Comment by Linda Focht02/03/10 at 11:29 am
We should all BOYCOTT Chevron….MONEY TALKS! Not for 1 day, but from NOW, or the time he is given a chance to get his message, until the time he does something responsible to fix this situation, and help the victims involved. When I found out what had happened, and the non response from Chevron, I felt like part of the problem. I had to stop buying Chevron gasoline!
The MEDIA MUST BE INVOLVED….that’s the ONLY WAY to SPREAD THE MESSAGE and outrage to Chevron.
Comment by Margaret Whalen02/03/10 at 11:29 am
Besides the obvious idea of shoving it up his tailpipe, I would have his “brother” Captain Paul Watson (Sea Shepherd) deliver it. Or John Watson’s partner Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.), “Elementary, my dear Watson, clean up your f***ing act.” Holmes could discover that Watson was Dr. Moriarty all along. It could be delivered personally or in absentia at a public event, press conference, bill board, or sandwich board outside Chevron headquarters.

Robion Schaef has it right. The CEO is just an employee of the board, which is appointed by the majority shareholders, who are probably the major investment banks, which are owned by a few famillies. Find out who they are and go straight to them. They like operating behind multi-layered curtains of boards and corporations, so just the exposure would be effective in getting their attention. These are the people who need to be held personally accountable for the destruction they cause.

A couple of years ago I had the privilege of attending the Central Labor Council of Contra Costa County as I was a Union Rep. At this particular meeting we had the pleasure and privilege to listen to a group of people from the Amazon. Some were dressed in native atire, some not. The story they told, the pictures they shared moved many of us beyond our wildest expectation. It would be beneficial to the cause to get these respresntatives from the Amazon back to San Ramon, California and have them present the petition. Talk about a world class photo op for the local and international media! These representatives did a great service to their cause by speaking simply to the audience and having us know that they have been there and done that. Standard Oil and Chevron are touting themselves as a “green” venture – bold face lies. Thank you!

I haven’t heard a better idea than that espoused by the indigenous people, themselves: “John Watson, come and see what we live with daily, and witness the effects on our health and wellbeing”. The suggestion is to take this man, personally, to the Amazon jungle of Ecuador. Get him to listen to the people, let them show him what they’re talking about. (Of course that means the people who sign those pledges will have to keep their word, so it probably wouldn’t work. think of that consumer who has been servicing her car at Ollie’s Chevron station for 26 years, not being able to look Ollie in the eye at the supermarket. And so it goes.)

Every corporation is more concerned about the bottom line than anything else. What we need to do is to interfere with the bottom line, but a few things to consider are the regular workers that rely on Chevron for their income. I don’t care about the CEOs they will always have enough money even if Chevron goes bankrupt.
Comment by GrahamThe most effect way is to shame Chevron. We have that power ourselves through the internet, but we can also alert the media or do our own media. When people stop buying from Chevron they will have to do something to save themselves.
Another point is that Chevron should clean up after themselves, but a more efficient way of getting the job done is that if people ban together and vow to clean up Ecuador ourselves. That way we can ensure that the job is done correct. I have no faith in a corporation to feel guilt and to right its wrong. I believe we can out muscle Chevron and and place the shame upon their name.

I hate to say it but mass media does the trick. If millions know about it, chevron will feel the pressure. BOYCOTT!!

Not know what has been presented here is a general idea.
If possible use the people of the land to help restore it. If there is a hazard area to work in, use the proper protection along with a Specially trained team to restore to natural area.
I the people of the area have medical or educational needs that they want met this should be addressed and any building be kept to natural types of the peoples, other than purhaps the bathroom needs and any vacinations of diseases in the areas.
The idea, cleanup area, help people with what “they need and want”, do not force lifestyle changes on the people.

Bumper stickers with info regarding Chevron’s crimes and which encourage people to boycott. ie BOYCOTT CHEVRON; RAINFORESTS POLLUTERS. I’m sure someone can come up with a more catchy phrase than that, any ideas? Bumper stickers are quick and easy.

Mr John Watson needs to have present, the amount of lives that Chevron’s irresponsible actions have damaged or ended. How about 3000 people, manikins and cut outs stage a protest random mornings outside the Chevron Office where John works. This is a time consuming task so another could be a box of floating trees and people covered in black oil – a bit like a Plasma Lamp either life size or in a large box be delivered to John at Chevron or his wife at home or his children’s school. I think the SHAME that his children feel may be a sore point for their Father to enter into discussions. May be ok to make with Perspex sheets, silicone glue some oil and plastic models floating in coloured water? – May also look good as a sculpture outside Chevron? Thanks and good luck – keep up the amazing work. Love Lindi

Have a gas pump shoot out a stream of paper tape with the petition signers’ names on it. Or, if that’s too difficult to arrange, just pull out the tape by hand.
Comment by Kelly Pomeroy02/03/10 at 5:28 pm
Why not get people to pledge to boycott Chevron/that is, boycott Chevron. I used to buy gas at Chevron, only ( for about 6+ years ). I would drive out of my way to go to a Chevron station. I said now buy gas at ARCO. According to an Internet Search, they are the most Socially Responsible. Bought my lst tank just the other day. I now know where all the ARCO’s are and have deleted the Cheveron stations out of my GPS.

Comment by Elizabeth Barris02/03/10 at 5:51 pm
Just quit driving, guys. It’s really that simple. At the very least, you should deliver the petitions by cargo bike — and I mean this seriously. The bigger the bike the better. Just don’t pull up in an internal-combustion contraption of any sort — this undermines your credibility to the point of ridiculousness.
Comment by Katherine Roberts02/03/10 at 6:01 pm
The fastest way to get chevron’s attention is to organize a boycott of all their products and maybe even picket their gas stations with pictures of what they are responsible for

Chevron MUST start using Hemp-Biomass for all of its fuels! Because it is the cleanest, safest, biodegradable, sustainable, renewable fuel on the planet and it is EASY to grow too. However hemp must have heavy regulations on where grown.

Comment by Gerry Peters02/03/10 at 7:58 pm
Paste all Chevron building’s walls with posters of the pollution they are creating in Ecuador and Nigeria, and the effect it is having on people’s way of life in those areas, and the destruction caused to the environment, multiple sheet posters, so the image is enormous(like a billboard), so that ordinary citizens can get a detailed look at the devestation. Black and white images would be more cost effective and possibly more emphatic. Would probably be an early morning job.
Comment by Paul Ford02/03/10 at 8:02 pm
I would love to see us boycott Chevron gas stations. It is far too easy to visit one in the Bay Area. We could make a difference by boycotting them in our own backyard. On the day the petition is delivered, the public boycott could begin. Let’s do it!

After viewing some of the other responses, I have come to a conclusion on what I would recommend. 1) If you can somehow acquire access the entire employee directory, as well as a list of the sharehholders, then action to send them all a copy, via e-mail would be quite inviting to the senses. This would provide some insight into the matter, and hopefully get the employees ALL talking and thinking, and give shareholders something to think about. The act would be through e-mail, and would be less expensive than mailings. 2) Each media outlet woulkd be quite fond of this matter. It may give them something to hype up, and I know in todays age, people would find this act appaling!
In todays rough economic times, the rick are reamining rich, and the poor are beingf crused almost to defeat! We, ads a people can not stand for this, and the fact that oil companies have the audacity to destroy the livelihood and future of others in teh world is disasterous! Action is needed, and this is a wonderful start! Thanks…….

Join with the environmental groups to show how Chevron harms wildlife, as well as human rights. People relate well to protecting wildlife,(except the Western States.) Show how Chevrons actions harm children. You need to get people’s sympathy. Juxtaposition their harm to children, animals and adults with cartoons of Fat Cats gloating over huge profits that crush the innocent.

Mr. Watson,
How would you like it if you allowed someone to come into your house to do some work and they left your house in shambles? Wouldn’t you get your best lawyer and make the person responsible for their actions?
Can you imagine being in a different country and not having the means for recourse? Can you imagine your case taking 16 years and it still isn’t done and you had to live in your house of shambles?
This scenario is what is being asked of you to consider in order to take responsibility for the damages that have incurred by the company you bought.
Comment by tia pearson02/04/10 at 12:11 am
Have the printed petion with signatures delivered to his personal desk (hopefully a huge, heavy bundle) along with photos or DVD of the disaster and its effects. It would be great if media coverage could show the bundle as it is about to be delivered. Maybe there’s a way Mr. Watson could be forced to hold a press conference justifying his refusal to clean up the mess. It’s not like Chevron can’t afford it!

Pair the 30 000 signatures with either the name or picture of one of the 30 000 ecuadorians who suffer as a result of chevrons disregard for the land and people. For each who suffers, one demands change! The sheer volume of what you would be delivering, would be powerful.
Comment by Evan02/04/10 at 1:02 am
Put each signature on a paper leaf, then build a tree out of something, and attach all the leaves to it. Deliver the tree! Better still, make a whole load of trees, and walk through to get to Chevron. Like the marching forest in Macbeth ; )
Comment by Celia02/04/10 at 3:18 am
The Ecuadorian government must be complicid in this environmental vandalism too. They need to be brought into the campaign also. I suggest you get some well known personality (George Clooney, Bono, James Cameron, Sting, Leonardo Di Caprio) to deliver it directly to Chevron HQ and also to the Ecuadorian Embassy. Alert the press and get as much publicity as possible. This should make them think about their dirty corporate policy.
Comment by John Fitzgerald02/04/10 at 3:47 am
Let’s make Chevron’s obligation to the Ecuadorian people and rainforest as all-american as baseball!! Chevron can’t greenwash the truth. “Don’t be rude. Don’t be crude! Step up to the plate. Help the people that you hurt. Hit a Homerun for a change! The world is watching Chevron-so play fair.”
Comment by Najma fichthornThis is how we might make the delivery of our petition;
Enter a bunch of cuties dressed as red, white and blue pom-pom shaking cheerleaders, with this chant
“Hey, Mr Waton, You are not a corporation. You’re a person and a person’s supposed to have a heart. Be a world-class hero…hit a homerun from the start!”
Then have a famous progressive baseball player(s), or just a bunch of little kid little-league players, in uniform, present him with the following objects; 1.) A BASEBALL BAT..that has ETHICS written on it. 2.) A BASEBALL that has ECUADOR’S CHERNOBYL written on it. 3.) a BASEBALL CAP which has JOHN WATSON’S name on it. 4.)a BASEBALL JERSEY with CHEVRON WRITTEN ON IT, on the back, with black, sludge, dripping letters, but on the front of the jersey, and over the heart, the Chevron insignia with a green ribbon, and a christ-like flame-colored aura. (to be aspired toward)
We can even start a cartoon drawing of this, with Watson up to bat.
Next, I suggest we take this image to the american people’s favorite institutions and have representatives ‘there’ to cheer Watson on.
1.) Little Leaguers of baseball
2.) Environmental groups, including SIERRA CLUB
3.) Public Citizen (Ralph Nader’s People)
4.) Inter-tribal councils (from all the americas)
5.) Church Groups
6.) Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America
7.) United Farm Workers (they can teach us about Boycotts)
8.) Famous Rock Stars, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, The Dead, etc. (Maybe a concert!)
9.) Hollywood celebs
10.) Jane Goodall (?)(Since she’s criticised other rainforest politics in Ecuador)
11.) The CIEL (Center for International Environmental Law)
CUZ, THE PLANET IS OUR HOME. THE PEOPLE IN ECUADOR ARE OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND CORPORATE LEADERS SHOULDN’T WANNA STRIKE OUT WITH “WE THE PEOPLE”!!! Onward! We’re more than ” a scrappy little environmental group”!

Ask Bob Doyle to go with you when you deliver the signitures.
Comment by Carl Thomas02/04/10 at 9:49 am
I like RAN and support standing up to the abuses of the oil companies. I feel that the indigenous people of Ecuador are beautiful and full of wisdom and are unfortunately being devastated by Chevron. If there was a way to have some Ecuadorian people be involved with the protest and speech making that this would be powerful. I feel the evidence of whats happening down there is very overwhelming and sickening so ut may just be a matter of alerting the public and the media. I do not know that Chevron will listen unless they feel they will lose money by not doing the right thing.
Comment by mo attar02/04/10 at 10:20 am
Get small buckets, fill the buckets with the signed petitions, to the handles, attach packages of household gloves and scrub brushes, and a tag that reads, “Make a mess; clean it up, Signed, Mom (Earth.)”
Comment by Sharon Finnegan Terleski02/04/10 at 11:42 am
Line a panel discussion with Charlie Rose, PBS, with the President/CEO of Chevron. include an enmvironmental activist that is know wuch as Robert Kennedy, JR; an elected government offical; a representative from Ecuador who may speak intelligently about the actions of Cheron in his/her country and impact on population before, during and after (because they do pull out and leave a mess); and a representative fromthe UN on environment. should be interesting and intelligent. km
Comment by Karen Madsen02/04/10 at 12:06 pm
I like the Charlie Rose or Bill Moyers idea- for a start. Then go on to the more widely viewed talk shows all the while having oil drip drop by drop into a bucket and show how quickly it adds up.
Comment by A. Crane02/04/10 at 3:23 pm
#1) My delivery suggestion would be to drop a dead twig, branch, small animal with a name attached at every door leading into a Chevron office building timed with the delivery of the petition. Visuals always send a strong message. Good Luck and keep up the good work, never let the b*^%$#^& win!
Comment by Kate Megin#2) Call for a special day to boycott all Chevron stations and get the word around, you would be suprised how effective that participation would be, people really do like to be “pro-active”.
02/04/10 at 4:58 pm
On Huffington Post I saw “the meanest cakes of all time” with all kinds of cakes decorated with break up messages, and other mean messages. I’m not suggesting you be mean, but how about a big sheet cake with brown icing and yellow letters spelling out “John, Chevron, didn’t your mother teach you to clean up your messes? The people of Ecuador are dying! Go to Ecuador and clean it up!” with a little green icing Ecuador and a big puddle of icing oil. Maybe that is a little wordy but you get the idea. With every bite hopefully, if he has any decency he’ll feel ashamed. Maybe at least his office staff would get something out of it-a bite to eat. Secretaries are worked way too hard anyway, as I know having been one. Especially by jerks like John.
Comment by Andrea Miotto02/04/10 at 5:50 pm
Invite him and his family to a gourmet dinner cooked by a famous gourmet chef. Let the meal be cooked of fish caught from the waters Chevron has polluted, let water be served from the river, let all the food be from the polluted river and surrounding lands. See if he is willing to eat and drink it. Then see if he will allow his children partake of it.
Comment by Sagiia Rae02/04/10 at 7:11 pm
A TV commercial or YouTube video mimicking the old heartstring/nature commercials Chevron did maybe 15 years ago.
Show a scenic area, preferably the one in question, *before* Chevron and voice over “do people who claim to care about the environment really destroy ecosystems then leave the mess for the locals to clean up?”
Switch to video from now during the previous sentence, focus on something particularly eggregious, and then voice over “People Do”.
If it’s legal, have a Chevron logo show up on a white background. If not, video of a Chevron logo on a gas station, then add in something catchy like dripping oil or a dead bird or a smokestack.

Comment by John Miller02/05/10 at 2:12 pm
It’s simple, right? Children are taught character development when they learn to clean up after their own spills. Sour milk stinks and creates illness when left in “spill form.” I think this presentation could be done in two days. First day: Though I would love to just have some identifiably stinky product spilled at his office door with notes attached about how adult behavior teaches the ethic of cleaning up ones’ messes, maybe just a huge sippy cup with the question attached: “At what age did you learn to clean up after yourself?”
Second day, offer a huge glass of fresh milk, with the petition attached and the same question attached to the glass: “At what age did you learn to clean up your own spills?” + plus “CLEAN UP ECUADOR!”
Comment by Lib Hutchby02/06/10 at 7:39 am
It is easy to ignore the consequences of your actions when you never see the people who are directly affected by your choices. If at all possible, bring individuals from the suffering communities to deliver the petition, or be present for the delivery. Men, women, and children who have been hurt and are suffering from the environmental degradation.
Comment by Jessica Stahl02/07/10 at 7:03 am
Chevron needs to show the native people how to clean up the mess by providing jobs, training and/or education as well as financially support the clean-up. When it costs Chevron enough, maybe they won’t leave another mess to clean up nor destroy the culture of the native population — anywhere.
Comment by Cheryl Erb02/10/10 at 11:18 am
The large oil companies have a monopoly on a public resource, energy. Certain human necessities should never be controlled by private organizations. One of these is oil. To secure private riches, our government has permitted such control which is now used to control the government through ads, phony focus groups, and campaign donations. This is wrong and unfair to all Americans.
Comment by David Nelson02/10/10 at 1:34 pm
We should send him a big Ecuadorian ‘get out of jail’ card. Chevron execs can donate money to spring him or let him sit. Ask the local muscular dystrophy folks if they would be willing to approach him. The money could be split between the native and MS survivors.
Comment by Dwight Hilpman02/11/10 at 1:03 pm
Create an Ecuadorian ‘Get out of Jail” card that Chevron execs can contribute to free him or pay to leave him in…give the proceeds to the native population that is struggling with waste water and other degradation.
Comment by Dwight Hilpman02/11/10 at 1:20 pm
The public does not forgive. It is in the best interest of everyone around the globe to see the destruction Chevron has caused. I would recommend the following action video and pictures and a documentary of someone on the ground talking to the native people of Ecuador and doing a study on the what this place looked like 100 years ago compared to NOW! If you raise enough money than make a commercial. Chevron needs to be exposed for what they have done and they need to clean up their act and the rainforest of Ecuador. The Greedy oil tycoons drinking a fricken scotch and people are dying because of greedy jerks karma karma what comes around goes around my friends.

Texaco is now owned by Chevron, so they are trying to blame all of their own problems on Chevron just to make Billions of dollars. There is video evidence of the venezuelan government bribing the judge for $3,000,000. It’s ludacris, so please people DON’T FEED INTO CORUPTION AND GREED. Thanks for your posting. I would also like to say that the first thing you will need to do is determine if you really need credit repair. To do that you have got to get your hands on a duplicate of your credit rating. That should really not be difficult, because government necessitates that you are allowed to be issued one absolutely free copy of your actual credit report per year. You just have to request that from the right individuals. You can either read the website for the Federal Trade Commission as well as contact one of the leading credit agencies immediately.

I have mastered some important matters through your blog post post. One other stuff I would like to express is that there are numerous games out there designed particularly for toddler age small children. They incorporate pattern recognition, colors, dogs, and styles. These usually focus on familiarization as opposed to memorization. This helps to keep little children engaged without feeling like they are studying. Thanks

Chris,Can you provide some more info? Do you want a 5 day routine to supplement or replace weight training? Are you training for strength, mass, or a specific sport? How do you separate workouts (legs/arms, pushing/pulling, etc.)? I’d be happy to offer some suggestions. You could also just get Convict Conditioning and read their suggested routines or use the knowledge to construct your own program.Dave
